I've recently become somewhat obsessed by the American Midwest, past and present, and was thus eager to read one of author Radclyffe's best known novels. Kate Beecher, a young woman on the brink of adulthood makes the long, arduous trek with her family from Boston to the wild, uncharted Montana Territory circa 1860 in search of a new life. Kate is happy to leave Boston behind, along with a society she has never felt completely at ease in. As she begins to establish a new identity and becomes comfortable in her new surroundings, Kate meets rancher Jessie Forbes, and both women start on their own respective journey of self discovery, ultimately to come to a better understanding of themselves and their desires.
