The book (the first in the Casey Family Saga) introduces us to tough-as-nails and sometimes ruthless mob boss Derby Cain Casey.  As the head of the Casey family enterprises, Cain rules one of the most powerful crime organizations in New Orleans. But there is one thing she doesn't have, not anymore. Four years ago her lover, Emma Verde, packed her bags and left Cain and their son for reasons still somewhat cloudy to Cain.
